It's Time to Reshape the Norm

As parents, we carry a profound responsibility for shaping the lives of our children and adolescents. However, the emergence of social media in the past decade has introduced a new dimension. It's becoming ever more apparent that online role models, who hold considerable sway over the mental and physical well-being of our children, also occupy a crucial role. They wield remarkable influence in molding the attitudes, behaviors, and even the purchasing choices of both our children and their dedicated followers. As the primary role models for our kids, it is our duty to comprehend the challenges they encounter and offer guidance in finding solutions.

Foster a positive environment

As influencers, we hold the responsibility of setting a positive example, inspiring, supporting, and empowering our audience to strive for their best selves. We possess the incredible ability to influence the beliefs, values, and behaviors of those who admire and look up to us. The choice of how to wield this power, for good or for ill, rests with us.

Let's Lead By Example

Together, we possess the capacity to make an enduring impact on our world by reshaping the established norms and harnessing the influential power of role models and social media for the greater good. When two essential role models, namely parents and influencers, collaborate, the potential for significant positive change becomes limitless. Yet, to unlock this potential, we must engage in responsible use, embrace innovative thinking, enhance digital literacy, and establish fresh policies and regulations. This is a pressing call to action, one that calls for a proactive and multi-faceted strategy. It necessitates the involvement of all stakeholders, especially our crucial role models—parents and influencers—who must Lead by Example to create a profound and meaningful impact.

The Power of Negative Influence

  1. Impaired Social and Emotional Development: Excessive exposure to influencers promoting unrealistic lifestyles or negative behaviors can impact children's social and emotional development. They may struggle with self-esteem, body image issues, and unrealistic expectations about life and relationships.

  2. Reduced Critical Thinking Skills: Children who primarily consume content from influencers may develop a passive approach to information, leading to reduced critical thinking skills. They may be less inclined to question or analyze the content they encounter.

  3. Impact on Academic Performance: Excessive screen time and the influence of negative role models can lead to decreased focus on academic activities, potentially affecting school performance and learning outcomes.

  4. Behavioral Changes: Children may imitate the behaviors and attitudes of the influencers they admire, which could lead to the adoption of negative or inappropriate behaviors, such as materialism, aggression, or substance abuse.

  5. Online and Offline Relationships: Excessive digital consumption can reduce the time children spend building real-world relationships. They may struggle with communication skills, empathy, and forming meaningful connections with peers.

  6. Mental Health Challenges: Negative content from influencers can contribute to mental health issues, including anxiety, depression, and feelings of inadequacy, particularly among vulnerable age groups.

  7. Consumerism and Materialism: Children exposed to influencers who promote consumerism and materialism may develop a strong desire for material possessions and a superficial view of success.

  8. Limited Exposure to Diverse Perspectives: An overreliance on specific influencers can limit exposure to diverse perspectives, stifling creativity, tolerance, and open-mindedness.

  9. Privacy and Security Concerns: Excessive digital consumption can lead to privacy and security risks, especially if children share personal information or engage in risky online behaviors influenced by influencers.

  10. Parent-Child Conflict: Differences in values and behaviors influenced by influencers can lead to conflicts between children and their parents or caregivers.

To mitigate these potential negative outcomes, it is crucial for all individuals engaged online, particularly influential role models like influencers, to set a positive example and share in the responsibility. They should actively promote critical thinking, media literacy, and open dialogue regarding the content children engage with on the internet. Moreover, advocating for a well-rounded lifestyle that incorporates physical activity, in-person interactions, and diverse educational experiences can effectively counter the adverse effects of excessive screen time and unfavorable role models.

Our Story

Our unwavering commitment to this cause is deeply personal, rooted in the well-being of our children. It's a commitment driven by the desire to effect positive change for parents who may not have the time or resources to ely breeding empathy and compassion, fostering inclusivity, cultivating value innovation for the mental well-being of the youth today and future generations.

I am Kimberly, the Founder, and CEO of "Streaming Good Vibes." As a divorced mother of two boys, aged 11 and 13, I've grappled with the formidable challenge of balancing a full-time career with the responsibilities of motherhood while navigating the intricate landscape of social media. To put it mildly, this journey has been profoundly challenging.

When I made the life-altering decision to leave a 24-year-long career to pursue my passion, I was confronted with the stark reality that my understanding of the intricate relationship between social media and my boys' lives was rather limited. This awakening led me down a path of discovery, and fortunately, I found myself on a mission alongside like-minded individuals to address this pressing crisis. It's a crisis in which my boys, and countless other children, are active participants in a decades-long experiment during their most pivotal stage of brain development.

This stage marks a formative period when their self-worth undergoes profound changes, often accompanied by significant fluctuations in their mental well-being. It's a time when their appetite for risk is at its peak, and when signs of depression and anxiety can surface. As their parent and primary role model, I feel an immense responsibility to gain a comprehensive understanding of the aspects of their digital lives that I can influence and oversee.

As I've embarked on this journey, I've come to realize that there are facets beyond my control. Yet, through innovative thinking, heightened awareness, steadfast support, and collaborative efforts, we can take meaningful steps to mitigate the effects now. These are the areas where online role models, the influencers, hold a vital role. They share the responsibility of guiding not only my children but also all the youngsters navigating this pivotal developmental stage. My passion for this cause lies in ensuring that online influencers recognize their impact and actively join us in constructing a safer, more nurturing digital realm for our children.

This is not just my story; it's the story of countless parents and children. Together, we aim to create a future where the digital world nurtures, educates, and empowers our youth. We envision a world where responsible influencers acknowledge their power and embrace their responsibility in shaping a positive online environment.
